TODDLERS will be waddling in their wellies to help raise money for Weston Hospicecare.

A half-mile walk for the under fives' will take place at Animal Farm Adventure Park in Berrow on May 21 and the campaign is being launched this week.

Family and friends of children taking part in Weston's Wellie Waddle, which is the first ever held by Weston Hospicecare, are asked to sponsor them to help raise as much money as possible.

Pre-schools, nurseries and childminders are also being urged to get more children involved in the event, which is sponsored by the Weston & Somerset Mercury and Praxair Surface Technologies.

One toddler who will be taking on the challenge in his waterproof foot wear will be two-year-old Oliver Andrews.

His mum, Rachel, has been a volunteer at the Uphill-based hospice for six years and is chairman of the fund-raising committee.

The 36-year-old said: "I have taken part in quite a few events in aid of the hospice but this will be the first time Oliver has helped out.

"Jackston Barstow House is a really nice place for people to stay and the staff and nurses do such an excellent job. Any money we raise will be a great help."

Cash collected at the event will be used to help fund the daily running of the hospice, which provides care for people with life-threatening illnesses. This costs about £5,000 per day.
