Weston brownies celebrate turning 92

ONE Of Britain’s oldest Brownie packs is celebrating its 92nd Birthday this week.
The 3rd Weston Brownies group has 30 girls aged between seven and 10-years-old who enjoy a range of activities, from getting badges to camping trips.
The pack is currently looking for a new helper to ensure the group continues to be run.
Current leader, Brown Owl Lindsay Mckirgan said: “The girls all really enjoy being part of the group, especially when we go on trips. It helps them build their confidence and become more independent.
“We make them do everything, from cooking to cleaning – even the toilet!”
Ms Mckirgan said the group has helped her as much as it has the hundreds of children she has been involved with in her seven years with the group.
She first got involved when she was widowed from her husband.
She said: “My husband died which was really traumatic, so it helped me to take my mind off it.”
Despite being disabled and using an electric scooter to get around, she said she has really enjoyed leading the group.
She said: “I only hope we can get someone else to help out too”.
The group meet every Wednesday at Milton Methodist Church at 6.30pm.
