WESTON carnival is in desperate need of charities and businesses to get involved in collecting money after several backers pulled out, according to one of its committee members.

The committee who run the event need collectors to go out with buckets to raise money for the carnival when it rolls into town on November 14.

All the money they help to collect will go into a big pot and each group will receive a donation from the committee shortly after the event on a pro-rata basis.

Collections officer Nigel Mathewson said whilst the problems were real there was ‘no doubt’ that the carnival would go ahead as planned.

He said: “It’s not a free show – everybody has put their bit in. We have to get as many charities and businesses on board to keep it in the forefront of people’s minds.”

Last month organisers decided to revert to its traditional route along Alexandra Parade, Alfred Street, the seafront and the Boulevard.

Anyone interested in getting involved can contact Nigel on 01934 620675 or email admin@northsomersetcarnival.co.uk. Collectors must be aged 16 and above.
