WESTON College has denied rumours it is pulling out of the new Nailsea School development.

College principal, Dr Paul Phillips, said he was still in discussions with the developers about finding a suitable site for the building in the grounds.

The college has applied to the Learning and Skills Council for funding to build a new centre on the grounds in Mizzymead Road.

Dr Phillips said: "There are a number of plots available and we are in discussions with the school.

"We expressed a wish to be allocated a plot which has got road frontage.

"We already have a base in Nailsea but we want to extend our provision in the town and offer IT, construction and hairdressing courses, so we need quite a big plot."

It will be the first time a college building has been sited next to a school, which is part of the Government's Building Schools for the Future initiative.

A planning application for Nailsea School was submitted to North Somerset ouncil last week.
