A group of students were given a taste of public speaking in a formal environment last week.

The 20 Weston College students visited the Town Hall, in Walliscote Grove Road, to debate issues of interest to young people.

They spoke about the Tropicana, the Italian Gardens and rehabilitation through sport.

The students were welcomed by North Somerset Council chairman John Crockford-Hawley, who said: “I wish all debates which I chair in this chamber were of such quality.”

College lecturer Joel Parker said: “This occasion provided learners with the opportunity to develop a number of industry-relevant skills which are essential to future employment.”
