Some operations at Weston General Hospital have been cancelled today (Thursday) due to the severe weather warning issued by the Met Office.

Clinics and elective operations have been postponed as a precaution, with snow set to cause major disruption across the area.

Tomorrow’s lists have also been cancelled.

A&E will remain open until 10pm as normal, but health bosses are stressing the department is for emergency patients only.

A hospital spokesman also urged people not to risk their own safety to travel to visit relatives, promising they will look after them.

The Met Office has increased its weather warning for today to ‘red’ severity with widespread disruption expected from 3pm.

So severe is the alert that people are being told not to travel if necessary and to stay indoors where possible.
