Bleadon WI has raised thousands for Weston General Hospital's scanner appeal.

More than £7,000 has been donated towards Weston General Hospital’s scanner appeal thanks to the generosity of the WI.

Bleadon WI handed a cheque for £7,350 to hospital staff after a raffle, ball and silent auction were held last year.

Weston is trying to raise £400,000 to pay for a scanner which will improve patient care.

Hazel Saunders, president of Bleadon WI said: “The ball was held to raise money for the appeal and we’re delighted it was such a success.

“We’d like to thank all our members and local community who came and gave so generously.

“Our previous president attended the launch of the appeal back in 2016 and this inspired us to make it our chosen charity for the evening.

“Our members are all proud supporters of our local NHS.

“We all rely on Weston General Hospital and know this money will go to a very good cause.”

June Stephen, chairman of the hospital’s Friends, said the donation was ‘remarkable’.

Bleadon Belles will raise further funds at a concert on March 24 at Coronation Hall.
