A WI group has presented a cheque for £1,000 towards an appeal to buy a new scanner for Weston General Hospital.

The League of Friends of Weston General Hospital and Weston Area Health Trust are hoping to raise £400,000 for new scanning equipment.

Bleadon WI held coffee mornings, pottery classes, quizzes and a tomato plant sale throughout the year to raise £1,000 towards the appeal.

The group also arranged an afternoon tea and Prosecco party for the whole village to enjoy at the Coronation Hall.

A new scanner would enable the radiology team to produce better-quality images and diagnose conditions more quickly, and help to cut waiting times.

The Bleadon WI’s fundraising efforts are due to continue next year. It is hosting a concert with the Bleadon Belles, the WI’s choir, early in 2018.

To donate, text SCAN16 and the amount to 70070.
