Weston Hospicecare is launching a new fundraising event based on the BBC's Strictly Come Dancing show.

The charity, in Uphill, is now looking for 12 couples to take part in the Strictly Fun Dancing for Weston Hospicecare event.

Couples will take part in training sessions for eight weeks before performing in front of a panel of judges and spectators in the grand final at the Winter Gardens on March 24.

Competitors will learn the cha cha and the American smooth foxtrot with Ben Hazell from Burning Salsa.

The charity is now keen to hear from any couples keen to take on the challenge in aid of the hospice, which supports people with life-limiting conditions.

Kelsey Dehaney, event fundraiser for the hospice, said: “In the charity’s first ever Strictly Fun Dancing for Weston Hospicecare event, couples will take on eight weeks of professional dance training to learn two different styles of dance, the cha cha and the American smooth foxtrot.

“Each couple will then perform at the grand finale in the stunning Winter Gardens ballroom in front of a live audience and a panel of judges.

“Inspired by the hit BBC show, Strictly Come Dancing, the event promises to be a glitzy, glamorous, fun evening for a very worthwhile cause.”

Couples will be asked to pay £30 to enter and pledge to raise £500 for Weston Hospicecare.

A professional photographer will be capturing photos of all the performances in the finale and at the end of the evening, one couple will be crowned the first ever winners of Strictly Fun Dancing for Weston Hospicecare.

Those keen to avoid the dancefloor can still take part in the event by buying tickets to the glamorous final.

Kesley added: “We are so excited to launch this exciting event. Strictly Fun Dancing is going to be a great evening out, and a fantastic opportunity for
12 couples to receive professional dance training from Burning Salsa.

“The newly-refurbished Winter Gardens Ballroom provides the perfect setting for our couples to take to the floor, and we hope to raise a fabulous amount of money for Weston Hospicecare.”
