A Weston-super-Mare musician is hoping a TV talent show could change his life, after he made it through the first stage of auditions.

Marvin Muoneke, best known by his stage name Marvin The Jazzman, appeared with friend Dennis DeMille on ITV’s Britain’s Got Talent on Saturday night.

The pair performed as The Ratpackers, a nod to the famous group of entertainers nicknamed the Rat Pack, which included Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr among others.

Their performance came out of Sinatra back-catalogue, as they sang a rendition of New York, New York.

Ahead of their turn on the big stage in front of the judges, 22-year-old Marvin said: “This show could potentially change both of our lives.

“This is a great opportunity to have a little taste of what can come in the future, and I’m really excited.”

The pair received a standing ovation from the judges, and Simon Cowell, who can be hard to please, said: “That was great. You are very feel-good.”

Marvin regularly performs in venues around Weston, often with his trumpet. He describes himself as a ‘the young man with an old soul’.

Alesha Dixon told the pair: “You brought such a lovely, gorgeous energy into the room.

“There is something about you two and your character, and your charisma – it’s infectious.

“I love that style of music and you really are a breath of fresh air. Fantastic audition.”

David Walliams echoed the comments made by the other judges, saying: “You guys are absolutely adorable.

“The incredibly infectious energy you have when you sing together is very special.

“I’m so pleased you came on Britain’s Got Talent.”

Amanda Holden went even further, and said she hoped to see The Ratpackers in the final.

She said: “You are brilliant.”

Marvin studied professional music performance and production at Weston College, and graduated in 2017.

He and Dennis, aged 51 and from Wales, said they were good friends and joked Dennis is a ‘father figure’. Dennis said Marvin is always smiling.

Britain’s Got Talent will continue on ITV on Saturday, with the final expected to take place in June.
