A police officer from Weston has been honoured at The Palace of Westminster after receiving an award for his extensive voluntary work.

Detective sergeant Ashley Jones, aged 45, was presented with a British Citizen Award on Thursday July 9 for his efforts to protect elderly people in the South West from crime.

Ashley formed the Senior Citizen Liason Team in 2009 with four others and has seen it grow into a 25-strong charity providing guidance and tailored crime prevention to seniors across the region.

He said: “I was very surprised, delighted and humbled to receive the nomination and I feel that I have stood on the shoulders of giants to get where I am today.”
