Gallery: Weston RNLI open day was ‘one of the best’

One of Weston-super-Mare RNLI’s most successful open days took place on Sunday.
The charity holds open days so people can see how the station and its fundraisers work.
This year, lifeboat crewmembers were joined by the coastguard helicopter team, and they demonstrated how they work together during a sea rescue.
The lifeboat crew also demonstrated how it would deal with a collision between a hovercraft and a sailing boat.
People were given sea safety advice, listened to the Barnacle Buoys choir and enjoyed some cakes at the RNLI shop in Anchor Head.
George Papworth, president of the RNLI fundraisers, said: “I have been attending open days for many years and this was certainly one of the best.
“My thanks go to all the organisers, the fundraisers, the crew, all those who donated tombola prizes and delicious homemade cakes, and, of course the public, without whom we could not continue our role of saving lives at sea.”
The event raised £787 for the town’s RNLI branch.
