A hotel organisation in Weston-super-Mare has donated the last of its funds to the RNLI.

The Weston Hotels and Restaurants Association closed in 2015, but was left with some cash in the bank, which it has passed onto the Weston RNLI.

The association members visited the lifeboat station last week to present the team with a cheque for £7,000.

Keith Fearn, president of the association, said: “We wanted the money to go to a local charity and we felt the local RNLI certainly deserves it with all the lives they save.

“We toured its temporary facilities and it’s in desperate need of a new station.

“We hope this will help towards paying for that.”

Peter Elmont, chairman of the Weston RNLI fundraising committee, said: “We are very grateful for this donation.

“It just shows how the people of Weston care for their RNLI lifeboat station.”
