A team of Weston-super-Mare runners have raised more than £4,000 for Cancer Research UK.

Through fundraising activities, including taking part in Race For Life, the group, set up by Kendal Holmes, has raised £4,627 after her friend, Sara Thorne, lost her seven-year battle to breast cancer in February.

Kendal formed a group of Sara’s 15 close friends and family, including daughter Stephanie, and arranged a family fun day which took their fundraising total to more than £3,000.

Kendal said: “When she passed away it left us devastated, Sara was simply an amazing person.

“When I set up this group we wanted to try to raise £1,000 between us, so to pass £4,000 and rising is just amazing.

“Stephanie has been incredibly strong since losing her mum.”
