There has been an increase in youngsters breaking doors, smashing windows and being threatening and intimidating towards elderly people in Weston’s Coronation estate.

According to one homeowner, who asked not to be named, drug dealing has been taking place and despite reporting these incidents to both Alliance Homes and the police, problems remain.

The homeowner, who lives on Ottawa Road, told the Mercury: “It is so worrying to see this type of behaviour on a daily basis, I’m scared not just for me and my daughter’s safety but for all members of the community.

“A lot of elderly people live on this estate, they do not deserve to be treated in such horrible ways.

“I have seen kids who can’t be much older than age 13 dealing drugs outside, the front door to the flats has been broken for quite some time, which means people can come in and deal drugs here, it is not safe.”

A CCTV camera which was broken more than a year ago has not been replaced, leading to issues on the ground floor.

A spokesman for Alliance Homes said: “We have arranged for our surveyor to visit the property to assess the damage to the door.

“We will also be reinstating CCTV for a temporary period to ensure the safety of our customers who live in our homes.

“We actively support our communities to report suspected incidents of crime and antisocial behaviour to the police.”

Police say they have received more complaints relating to antisocial behaviour on the estate.

A spokesman said: “We are in touch with residents and we have been regularly visiting and talking with the occupants of the properties in question.

“We have implemented an additional patrol plan to monitor activity in the area.

“We are also working with the relevant housing association to ensure people are aware they have terms and conditions on their tenancy and persistent antisocial behaviour is a breach of those conditions.

“You can report information anonymously by calling Crimestoppers on 08005 55111, or you can call 101 and ask to speak to the Bournville and Oldmixon neighbourhood team.”
