SAND sculptor Nicola Wood, who has displayed her work at the Weston Sand Sculptor Festival, has gained second place at a European competition.
It was unclear if Nicola would take place in The European Championships of Sand Sculpting, which took place in the Netherlands, after the town’s festival was damaged by vandals.
Although she was two days late, the new organiser of the Weston festival managed to catch up with her competitors and created a masterpiece of Robin Hood in record time.
She said: “I’m overwhelmed, I was concentrating so much on catching up that I never considered actually winning a prize.”
Nicola’s sculpture depicts the story of Robin Hood stealing from the rich, which fits within the competition’s theme of legends and sagas from your home country.
