Haywood Village Academy in Weston-super-Mare raised more than £1,000 to secure a visit from the Project Zulu choir on Monday.

The academy ran several school events to help raise the funds, including organising two movie nights and a non-uniform day.

Project Zulu is made up of 20 South African school students who are raising money to build an IT classroom at Umcebowolwazi Primary and a science classroom for Siyawela Primary, which are both located near Newcastle in eastern South Africa.

The charity group tour around London, Bristol and the surrounding areas to perform at concert venues, busk in cities and visit schools.

School teacher Molly Priddle said: “The after-school performance was a massive success.

“We managed to raise more money for Project Zulu on the day by raising more than £1,110 in total.”
