A WELL-KNOWN singer-songwriter from Weston has been awarded thousands of pounds to help promote his talents and rocket him into the world of music.
Ryan Inglis is a full-time musician and guitar teacher who has been writing and recording songs since moving to Weston in 2002.
In his quest to spread his music far and wide he signed up to Slicethepie.com which acts as a financing platform for up and coming artists in the music industry.
If fans are impressed with what they hear online they can give money to the artist by sponsoring them.
This month Ryan, who is unsigned and self managed, found out he had been awarded nearly £9,000 from online sponsors. He can now use the cash to film a promotional documentary and record a single at London’s famous Abbey Road Studios.
The former Weston College student said: “It’s awesome to have been awarded this money and my thanks goes out to all those who have supported me.
“After just a month of joining Slicethepie.com I had thousands of pounds.
“Moving to Weston was the best thing I ever did as the music scene here is great. No other town is like it. Virtually every night you can go out and see live music but people don’t realise how much there is and how lucky we are.”
The Bleadon-based artist will be the subject of a week long documentary as the cameras follow him around London doing gigs, interviews and recording his self-written single.
The Bridgwater Road resident, who performs about 200 shows a year, beat thousands of other bands and artists from all over the world to win the award from investors and fans who believe in his music.
The showman has previously completed an acoustic album, selling 1,000 copies, and likens his pop, rock, and funk sound to John Mayer, Incubus and the Foo Fighters.
He plays originals and covers and can be spotted at many venues in Weston and Bristol.
As well as writing and performing his own music he can also be seen playing with soulful singer-songwriter Lorna Thomas, also from Weston, or in spin-off groups, VTKTM or the Ryan Inglis Band.
