A Weston-super-Mare man fighting the overnight closure of Weston General Hospital’s A&E has won the support of thousands of people – and is taking his concerns to Parliament.

Terry Hutt is often seen around the town centre on his scooter petitioning for the A&E, which has been closed overnight since last summer due to staffing shortages, to reopen 24/7.

And he has collected an impressive 15,000 signatures, and he is set to deliver copies to political bosses in London including health minister Stephen Barclay and Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn in a bid to see the closure ended.

Mr Hutt, aged 83, said: “It’s got serious. The people of Weston are getting really angry.

“The NHS belongs to everyone.

“The problems have now got worse and we need this to be resolved as soon as possible.

“I’ve got my eyes on winning this one.”
