The total number of people arrested after a major drugs raid took place in Weston-super-Mare yesterday now stands at 53, after a further 18 arrests were made today (Wednesday).
Avon and Somerset Constabulary raided a number of addresses in Weston and Yatton yesterday after a nine-month operation came to a close.
Officers announced this morning that 18 people have been charged with 60 offences relating to the operation. Some 33 warrants have been executed and eight people have been remanded in custody.
Area commander for Somerset and North Somerset, Chief Superintendent Ian Wylie, said yesterday officers remained committed to cracking down on drug dealing despite the operation’s success.
He said: “Drugs have a hugely negative impact on communities, with anti-social behaviour, criminal damage and other crimes all generated by people trying to fund their drug use.
“I sincerely hope today’s arrests, as well as our commitment to investing significant resources in lengthy investigations, provides reassurance to residents that we will not tolerate drug dealing and that we are committed to ensuring people feel free to live in their communities without the fear of crime.”
