A three-mile stretch of a busy Weston-super-Mare dual carriageway which leads from junction 21 of the M5 into town will undergo maintenance next week.

North Somerset Council has announced annual maintenance of Somerset Avenue, Flowerdown Bridge and Herluin Way will take place from Monday to July 13.

The work, which includes cutting vegetation and removing litter from the central reservation, will take place from 9pm-1am each night with crash cushions used instead of closing lanes on the dual carriageway.

Council deputy leader and executive member for highways Elfan Ap Rees said: “We have programmed the work for late evening to minimise the impact on local residents and road users.

“This is the main route into Weston for many people, so it’s important that it’s looking good for the main summer season.”
