A volunteer-run radio station at Weston-super-Mare General Hospital invited people to two-step and square dance the night away.

Sunshine Radio has been based at the hospital, in Grange Road, since 1986 and has provided patients with an enjoyable music station just for them.

The barn dance was held at Weston Football Club, in Winterstoke Road, on July 8 to help the station raise money for its new studio, which will cost £20,000.

The station is now only £1,400 short of its target and is eager to get back to putting on live shows for patients.

Organiser Mike Parker said the event ‘went very well’. He added: “Taking into account the fact we had other events as competition, we had a really good turn out.

“Everyone I spoke to really enjoyed the event and people are already asking when the next one will be.

“All-in-all I am extremely happy with how it went.”
