Charities and community groups in Weston-super-Mare are being encouraged to apply for a share of a funding pot.

Persimmon Homes Severn Valley has already given away more than £14,000 to good causes this year, with £2,000 available each month.

The community champion scheme started in 2015 and groups can apply for funding up to £1,000 to match the money they have raised themselves.

Some of the causes to benefit include Friends of Prince Consort Gardens, Supporting Weston-Super-Mare Homeless and Friends of Westhaven.

Carly Spear, from Persimmon Homes Severn Valley, said: “Community champions is a great way for us to support the communities in which we are building.

“With the success of our Oakwood View, our latest phase at Haywood village, we’re looking for charities from the local area to benefit from the generous donation.”
