Weston-super-Mare is home to the Labour Party’s youngest branch vice-chairman in the country.
Weston Constituency Labour Party has voted in 16-year-old Jack Wilfan to take on the role of vice chair for the next year.
He has previously acted as youth officer for the Weston group, and says he now wants to make sure young people’s views are known.
He said: “We need more young people to be in positions of influence in politics so we can truly be a representative democracy.”
Jack has been a member of the party since he was just 14 years old. He said: “I have been able to experience some great opportunities, including being the youngest delegate at the Labour Party Conference at the age of 15.”
A spokesman from the group said: “Jack’s spirit and enthusiasm has inspired members both old and young, and he has been a welcome presence from day one.
“His age is no barrier to his talent, and his ability as vice chair was what caused him to be voted in with a huge majority.”
