Weston Lions Club will host a 50-50 charity sponsored walk this year following the success of its event in 2019.

The walk will be held this autumn and people can raise money for their clubs, organisations, groups, charities and schools as well as Weston Lions.

Groups and individuals will start from Weston Royal Sands on either a gentle two-mile walk or a more leisurely six miles towards Brean, or challenging eight miles to Brean Village Hall and back.

Weston Lions said it has been instrumental in commissioning signs along Brean Down Way, adding that the fundraiser is an ideal way of publicising the walk and raising money for local groups in a safe open-air environment, as well as continuing the work it does to support the local community.

Club secretary, Chris Nelson, said: “By organising this walk, we are providing the opportunity for groups, clubs, schools and individuals to raise money, and get out in the fresh air later this year.

“The Brean Down Way is a gentle pathway, with some wonderful views across Somerset and beyond.”

The sponsored walk will start at Royal Sands in Weston on October 17 at 10am. Entry fee costs £5 for people and £10 per group, regardless of size.

All walks start from mile marker one, which is on the Promenade near Royal Sands. The two-mile walk heads towards the beach and Uphill, onto the footpath to Uphill Wharf Café, which is one mile there and one mile back to complete this walk.

The six-mile walk takes people towards Uphill and Brean, passing Uphill Wharf Café which follows the Brean Down Way to mile marker four at the Great Bird Screen. People need to return along the same pathway to collect their completion certificate.

The eight-milk walk takes people through the same route as the six-mile walk, but continues through the caravan park to Brean Village Hall and mile marker five at the junction of Weston and Warren Road, which people need to return from along this route to complete the challenge.

On the day, people are being asked to report to the registration desk with their completed sponsor form. They will then be given an identifier and, on their return, the club will swap this for a certificate of achievement.
