The Lions Club of Weston-super-Mare has presented a £1,000 cheque to cancer charity Ovarian Cancer Action.

The donation marks the third £1,000 cheque the club has presented to cancer-related charities so far this year, with the money being raised through its weekly raffle collections at Pontins, in Sand Bay.

The collection has been going for many years under the guidance of the club’s members Clive Dark, Pat Horrigan and Alan Morton.

A spokesman from the club said: “It is a wonderful evening and many of the generous guests look forward to it as much as we do.”

The club raises thousands of pounds each year, through race nights, its beer festival, art auctions, and more.

The money it raises is split between different good causes in the town as well as international disasters.

The club also set up Go Kids Go! with the Mercury, a scheme which provides grants to youth groups.
