Micro pub could open in Weston in October

Garment could be converted into a micro pub.

Weston’s first micro pub will open this year after it gained planning permission.

The Black Cat will replace the Garment menswear shop in High Street.

Micro pubs have shorter opening hours than traditional pubs, and it will not have electronic entertainment.

The owners will work with micro breweries in North Somerset and Bristol to supply the drinks.

The Samaritans charity, which is based near Garment with one shop dividing them, objected to the proposals, saying it would be too noisy when volunteers are trying to give advice to people in distress.

However, the pub owners have listed ways to reduce the noise, including installing acoustic or foam panels on the walls, and carpeted floors.

Nick Smith, who will help to run the pub, said: “I am pleased to announce we have been given approval for our micro pub to open.

“We’re really excited for us and Weston.”

If the work goes to plan, it could be open at the start of October.
