A Weston woman has shaved her head to raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, as her three-year-old son battles the condition.

Claire Wilson, aged 39, said while research has come a long way, she believes this is ‘not far enough’ and wanted to do something to help fund further research.

She said: “We didn’t know anything about cystic fibrosis until Rufus was diagnosed at two weeks old. The shock was unimaginable.”

Cystic fibrosis is a genetic disorder which affects mostly the lungs, but also the pancreas, liver, kidneys, and intestines.

Claire added: “It seems so unfair that this happened to our gorgeous boy, but there’s absolutely nothing we can do about it, other than to do all we can to keep him healthy.

“With half of people now born with the disease living to celebrate their 40th birthday we’ve come a long way, but no where near far enough.”
