Weston RNLI’s open day raised around £2,000 for the charity.

The charity held the event on Sunday, where people could speak to the crew, get sea safety information and learn more about its plans for a new lifeboat station.

A large crowd of people watched the lifeboat demonstrations, held alongside the coastguard and its helicopter.

Weston RNLI spokesman Glyn Hayes said: “There was a lot of wind so it was a bit rough, but that added to the spectacle.

“The open day went extremely well, and we had a huge crowd, which was excellent.

“It was one of our most successful open days.”

People also visited the Cove restaurant, by Marine Lake, which is where the RNLI wants to build its new lifeboat station.

They were able to view some of the plans and see how lifeboats would launch.
