Thousands of pounds were raised at a charity rugby match to raise cash for two charities close to a Weston team’s heart.
Weston Rugby Club welcomed Bristol and Moseley Old Boys XV for a friendly game to raise money for the Bristol Children’s Hospital Grand Appeal and the Wales & West Acute Transport for Children charity.
The event saw the teams go head-to-head in an 84-all spectacle to raise money in memory of Weston player Richie Bignell’s young son Lance who died in tragic circumstances earlier this year.
There was also live music, provided by The Reaper Bar, and games for all the family.
One of the Gromit statues from Bristol’s famous trail made a guest appearance and one of the best rugby referees in the world, Wayne Barnes, took charge of the main game.
Richie and his family made a special appearance on what was an emotional day to support the very worthwhile charities.
