A social club in Weston-super-Mare celebrated its diamond anniversary this month, with regulars toasting the long-standing watering hole.
The 49 Social Club, in Baker Street first opened on February 4, 1957, as a meeting place for staff from the Bristol Omnibus Company, which was a leading bus service in the area.
The club was originally situated at 49 Oxford Street after bus inspector Gilbert Day borrowed money from the station canteen to open the bar, but it later moved to its familiar Baker Street home.
Trevor Arthurs, of the club, said: “To this day it’s a vibrant music venue. We are doing really well.”
