Weston Sea Cadets has been recognised as the third best unit in the country by the captain of the maritime youth charity.

Captain Phillip Russell presented the unit and its commanding officer sub-lieutenant Barry Fear with the captain’s cup, which is awarded to the third best unit in the country.

There are 400 sea cadet units across the UK, 38 of which are based in the South West.

Captain Phillip Russell also presented ex-commanding officer lieutenant commander Ron Robert, who has dedicated 50 years of service to the cadets, with his captain’s medal.
