Strong winds across Weston-super-Mare and North Somerset have caused power cuts and road closures this morning (Sunday).

A number of homes are without power in Yatton, Burnham-on-Sea, Burrington, Winscombe and Shipham.

People travelling to Bristol Airport were told to leave more time for their journeys due to a fallen tree in Brockley Combe. It has now been cleared.

In Yatton, 45 homes are without power in the BS49 postcode area. It is estimated power will be restored at 1.30pm.

There are 93 homes without power in Blagdon, Shipham and Winscombe. Electricity should be restored between noon and 1pm.

The Met Office has advised there is a yellow wind warning in place in North Somerset.

A spokesman said: “A spell of strong winds is expected affect the far south of England and Wales on Sunday morning and early afternoon with the highest winds expected in Bristol Channel coastal areas.

“Some short term loss of power and other services is possible, as well as some delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges.

“It is likely some coastal routes, sea front and coastal communities affected by spray and/or large waves.”

Around 3,700 homes are without power in the South West.
