A Weston-super-Mare woman is looking to raise more than £20,000 to help fund her breast cancer treatment.

Anna Edgell grew up in the town before emigrating to Australia to pursue a career as a midwife.

But after falling ill at Christmas, doctors confirmed she had stage four cancer.

Anna, who has a six-year-old daughter and 17-year-old son, will receive her treatment in Australia.

Her parents have arranged a fundraising event at The Borough Arms, in Locking Road, on March 31 at 5pm.

A BBQ, raffle, and live music from four bands will be provided.

There is no admission charge, but donation buckets will be available.

Anna said: “It is likely I will never be free from cancer, but the doctors are hopeful they can keep it in remission or stop it growing and spreading for the next year or two.

“I will not be able to return to work as a midwife, which means I will no longer receive sick pay after May 1.

“I appreciate all the help and support from everyone and I am eternally grateful.”
