THOUGHTFUL fund-raisers were thrilled to be given help from Weston residents and a local supermarket.
Bob and Stella Paynter, of Manilla Crescent, together with many other supporters, held a fun day at St John’s Football Club on the Bournville estate to raise money for televisions for patients at Weston General Hospital.
After the experience of nearly losing their son-in-law to renal failure and hearing about Weston man, Neil Parkes, who was in Frenchay Hospital in Bristol recovering from brain injuries after a hit and run accident, they decided to ‘give something back’.
Bob, aged 55, said: “We managed to raise enough to buy, as requested, three televisions with DVD for a unit at Weston but while at St John’s we heard about Neil Parkes, a regular at the club.
“We heard he needed a TV to help with his recovery at Frenchay so we called on local people for help and imagine how shocked we were when Asda agreed to buy us a TV. So thank you everyone who helped and thank you Asda.”
