A West Country cycling event has won an award.

Great Weston Ride (GWR) was recognised for its contribution to health and wellbeing at the Bristol Life Awards.

It was also nominated for the prize of best event for the second successive year.

Darren McKimm, the event’s organiser, said: “We’re incredibly pleased to have received this award, there was a rigorous judging process so to come away with a wonderful trophy is something we’re very proud of, especially in such an important category.

“We’ve had lots of people tell us how the GWR has helped and encouraged them to be more active and to feel fitter and healthier as a result.”
