A CELEBRATION day will be held in honour of carers at the Winter Gardens this week.

The Weston venue, in Beach Road, will hold a free community event as part of the nationwide Carers Week which starts on Monday.

The Crossroads Care event seeks to help those who selflessly devote themselves to looking after others, despite many suffering problems of their own as a result.

Its partner, Carers Trust, found in a recent poll that more than half of all carers suffered mentally with the struggles of caring for loved ones.

The Winter Gardens event seeks to help those in need, with agencies on hand to offer advice, support and information to local carers. It runs from 10.30am-3pm on Tuesday.

Christine Holland, CEO for Crossroads Care North Somerset, said: “There are currently six million carers in the UK. This means that one in ten of us are carers and at some point in our lives one in three of us will become a carer.

“Caring can turn your life upside down overnight and they can all too easily become isolated as they reduce their work and other commitments to concentrate on looking after others.”
