A founding member of Weston-super-Mare’s Wine Circle has died aged 80.

Yvonne Sutton helped start the group with 16 members in 1980 and spent a lot of time as the club’s social secretary.

To thank her for her service, current members met to raise a glass of Yvonne’s favourite Cote Roti.

The circle was formed by a group of independent traders and wine lovers in Moorland Road.

Since then it has grown in popularity and sees members host meals and wine tasting in their own homes.

A spokesman for the wine circle said: “Yvonne, who was well known and well liked in Weston, was also for many years a chiropodist who even at 80 was still working, albeit part-time.

“She will be greatly missed not only by members of the wine circle but by her family, many friends and patients.

“Over the years Yvonne gained a lot of knowledge and expertise which she willingly passed on to newer members of the group.”
