A Weston woman has raised more than £850 for a charity which looked after her husband in his final days.

Maxine Ferrier raised £870 for Weston Hospicecare after she gave up alcohol throughout the month of October.

The hospice cared for her husband, Roger, who died from prostate cancer earlier this year.

Maxine said: “I saw an advert on television about a health campaign where people give up alcohol for a month, I thought I could raise some vital funds for the hospice through this.

“The care, help and support they gave to both Roger and me was outstanding, the staff are wonderful and deserve so much praise.

“My family and friends have been very supportive of me and I am so proud of myself for raising such a large sum.

“I must thank Marie at Weston Working Men’s Club for helping me fundraise and give my love to everyone who donated.”
