Strong winds and heavy rain is expected to hit Weston-super-Mare and the surrounding areas tonight (Thursday).

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning across the Mercury patch from 6pm this evening until 9am tomorrow (Friday).

A Met Office spokesman said: “An area of strong winds is likely to develop across parts of the South West during Thursday evening before spreading further eastwards across England.

“Most likely, we will see gusts of 45-50 mph in a few spots inland as well as more widely around exposed coasts.

“However, there is a small chance stronger winds will develop in some areas with 60-65 mph gusts possible, particularly overnight into Friday.

“The strong winds will be accompanied by short-lived outbreaks of very heavy rain in places.”
