A SPLASH of red, black and white will be seen at North Somerset's libraries by the summer thanks to the introduction of new staff uniforms. The authority has written to people working at its outlets to tell them they will be expected to don the new attire by the end of July. The uniforms, which will cost more than £13,000 to introduce, will include a casual range with polo shirts or fleeces or a formal range with jackets and shirts. They will be ordered in phases and staff have been told they will be able to try on garments before any order is sent off.North Somerset Council has been consulting the people who work in its libraries for six months about what to do about uniforms and a group, consisting of Unison members, library staff and non-library staff and managers, agreed on the final choice. In libraries where staff already wear uniforms the new items will be introduced when the old ones would normally be replaced. In a letter to staff, North Somerset Council's assistant director for environment and operations, David Lawrence, said: "The introduction of uniforms has been a sensitive issue for some members of staff and this extended period will help staff to adjust to the change.
