What’s on in Weston-super-Mare in 2018

Here is a list of the main events which should keep your diary full and give you lots of ideas of how and when you should plan your visit to our fabulous area:
30-September 30: SAND SCULPTURE FESTIVAL.
Now in its 13th year on Weston seafront, the festival has celebrated a plethora of themes including Fairytales, The Continents of the World, Under the Ocean and Topsy Turvy. A family-friendly and interactive attraction, where the sculptors regularly visit to show off their amazing skills and talk to visitors.
7: EAT: WESTON FOOD FESTIVAL.
Food and drink producers from within 25 miles of Weston will descend on The Italian Gardens selling farmers’ market favourites such as cheese, cakes and pastries, meat and craft beer. There will also be tractors, livestock and cooking demonstrations.

7-8: WORLD AT WAR WEEKEND.
Weston’s Helicopter Museum will be transformed into a living history World War Two encampment complete with military re-enactors and historic vehicles to give visitors a glimpse of what life was like then. Meet British, German and Russian troops, explore the Vietnam Village and get up close to artillery and weapons including the 30-foot Bristol Bloodhound Missile.
28: THE BIG BANG FAIR.
A free science and engineering festival will be held at the Tropicana on the seafront, providing activities, workshop, exhibitions, shows, competitions, hands on activities and talks to excite and inspire young people.
5-SEPTEMBER 2: FUNLAND.
Weston’s Tropicana will once again host a family feast of funfair rides and games, with free entry to the site and rides accessed via a token system.
7: THE NORTH SOMERSET SHOW.
The 159th agricultural show with livestock competitions, displays and trade stalls, held at North Somerset Showground, in Wraxall.
10-11. CIRCUS ZYAIR.
The circus arrives at Weston’s Beach Lawns and will offer a colourful and action-packed show with high energy acts from all over the world.
12: WESTON ROTARY DOG DAY
A fun dog show, doggy sprint, children’s activities and agility demonstrations will take place on The Beach Lawns in aid of Holly Hedge Animal Sanctuary.
20: THE STRAWBERRY LION WALK.
Yeo Valley Lions Club is organising three different length-sponsored walks around the beauty spot, setting off from Yatton Railway Station.
25-27: WELLS COMEDY FESTIVAL.
Big names in the world of making people laugh will perform at four different venues around England’s smallest city.
3: WESTON HOSPICECARE’S MENDIP CHALLENGE.
Trekkers will walk a variety of distances, some in fancy dress, to raise money for the hospice in one of its main fundraisers.
9-10: THE DIG FOR VICTORY SHOW.
A 1940s-themed family festival held in the North Somerset Showground, in Wraxall. Based on wartime Home Front life, the show features military vehicles, classic and vintage cars, re-enactors, history talks, demonstrations, arena events, live music, dancing, children’s activities, a vintage fun fair, a 1940s farm and campsite.
15-16: THE NATIONAL REFUSE CHAMPIONSHIPS.
Bin crews race each other along the town’s seafront.
20: RACE FOR LIFE.
A 5km women and children’s charity event held on the beach in aid of Cancer Research UK.
22-24: TOP OF THE GORGE FESTIVAL.
A new festival will be held in Cheddar Gorge with plenty of outdoor action, live music and local food. Organisers are encouraging people to be adventurous by going along and trying something new.
23-24. AIR FESTIVAL AND ARMED FORCES WEEKEND.
One of the most hotly-anticipated events in the town calendar is back on the seafront from 10am-6pm both days. It features a mix of spectacular aerobatic and armed forces displays, along with Helidays helicopter fly-ins, funfair rides, trade stands and activities to entertain the whole family.
15: GREAT WESTON RIDE.
A 57-mile biking challenge from Long Ashton Park & Ride, in Bristol, to Weston which follows a spectacular route through the Mendips and across the Somerset Levels.
25-SEPTEMBER 2: CLEVEDON PIER’S VIKING VOYAGES.
Young adventurers can find out what fierce Scandinavian warriors, explorers and champion shipbuilders the Vikings were doing on Steep Holm and Flat Holm.
27-29: REAL ALE AND CIDER FESTIVAL.
The 11th weekend of revelry organised by Weston Lions Club with food and drink and live music a-plenty on the Beach Lawns in Weston.
28-29: WESTON PRIDE.
1980s band and Eurovision winners The Fizz are headlining, with Weston’s own Lipinski band will be performing alongside comedy, arts, theatre and culture in this Grove Park event to celebrate equality and diversity.
9-12: BRISTOL INTERNATIONAL BALLOON FIESTA.
Incredible balloons, entertainment acts and more will take place at the Ashton Court estate on the outskirts of Bristol.
19: THE NORTH SOMERSET RSPCA FUN DOG SHOW:
The free-to-enter canine competition held on The Beach Lawns consists of several classes including healthiest, happiest and most obedient dog, with the winners competing for the best in show.
26-27: STARS OF TIME FILM & COMIC CON.
Wizards of Middle Earth and a sci-fi couple are promised for this year’s event, held at Weston’s Tropicana.
22: EAT: WESTON FOOD FESTIVAL.
Food fans are in for a treat when they head to Weston High Street and Italian Gardens, which will be packed with stalls selling delicious, locally-produced food and drink, with cooking demonstrations to experience, family activities and free samples to be had.
19-21: HYDROGARDEN WESTON BEACH RACE.
An action-packed weekend of racing on one of the toughest sand tracks in the world. RHL Activities has transformed the race into a family event with stalls, rides and entertainment for all ages.
9: WESTON CARNIVAL.
More than 140 brightly-lit floats, marching bands and walking entertainers will fill the town with winter cheer.
