A group of green-fingered scouts have given up their time to carry out work on a village green.

The 1st Wick St Lawrence Scouts spent more than an hour tidying up an area of grass in the village.

The green and surrounding pavement had become overgrown with weeds over time and the scouts agreed to do the work to thank the parish council for a donation made earlier in the year.

Organiser Jeremy Fielding said: “They all got into the spirit of it and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

“Their reason for doing this for the local community was to show appreciation for the kind donation made by Wick St Lawrence Parish Council which will be used to help with the cost of a special activity planned for September.”

Afterwards, the youngsters were all treated to complimentary drinks and chips from the Ebdon Arms pub.

The 1st Wick St Lawrence group meets on Wednesdays at Castle Batch Primary School in Rawlins Avenue, Worle.
