DOZENS of wannabe cowboys and cowgirls have gathered at a Somerset inn to raise money for a variety of essential charities.

The ten-day-long country and western week at the Farmers Tavern in Brean has brought several hundred genre enthusiasts together, and a number of charities, such as the Bristol Oncology Unit, the Alzheimer’s Society, the RNLI and the Burnham Area Rescue Boat (BARB) will benefit.

The event started last Friday, and will continue until Sunday at the pub in Coast Road, with different acts playing every night, country and western discos in the afternoon, and stalls throughout the day.

Organiser Terry Clark said: “We’ve had about 250 people each night so far, and we’re hoping for more good crowds throughout the week.”
