North Somerset Council will look at how it will improve transport links in Weston-super-Mare – which could include a 20mph zone in the town centre.

Elfan Ap Rees, the council’s executive member for highways and transport, said the council should start to look at ways to approach its Joint Transport Strategy – which aims to address problems with the town’s transport network, tackle congestion and improve air quality by 2036.

He added: “Over the next 20 years it is clear Weston will change significantly as a place to live, work and visit.

“It is extremely important for us to have the best transport options within the town.”

A park-and-ride scheme was also suggested by councillor Richard Nightingale as well as improved cycle routes.

The council also hopes a new motorway junction – J21a – will help relieve the pressure on J21.
