WESTON will be alive with The Sound of Music when a special screening of the classic film musical hits town.Sing-A-Long-A Sound of Music gives fans an opportunity to watch the original 1965 film in glorious full screen Technicolor with subtitles accompanying the musical numbers, so the whole audience can sing-a-long with Julie. However, the show is more than just karaoke entertainment. Audience participation also includes props, song cards and the chance to dress up as a cast member or something mentioned in the film. Since its stage debut in London in August 1999, the show has seen fans turn up in all sorts of wacky costumes including nuns of both genders, mountain ranges, bundles of brown paper packages tied up with string, girls and boys in white dresses with blue satin sashes and even whiskers on kittens, bright copper kettles and warm woollen mittens. Producer, Ben Freedman, said: "The phenomenon of Sing-A-Long-A Sound of Music is difficult to explain, but the emphasis is very much on fun and participation. Audiences are encouraged to attend in fancy dress and take part in the fancy dress competition and win prizes."Each member of the audience receives a Sound of Music Magic Moments Fun Pack which adds an enormous amount of participation to an evening that is designed to include everyone at whatever level they wish to participate." Just in case the prospect of playing a part in one of the Britain's most popular film musicals doesn't have everyone swinging from the abbey gates, there is even a live host to lead participants through a vocal warm-up, show them how to use their fun packs, demonstrate the accompanying actions and teach them those all important heckles including how to boo the Nazis, hiss the baroness and, of course, cheer for Julie.Sing-A-Long-A Sound of Music will be at The Playhouse on May 6.
