CLASSICAL ballet takes centre stage at The Playhouse with the tale of the hapless would-be knight, Don Quixote. Presented by Moscow Ballet, the story follows the adventures of Quixote, who, having read too many tales of ancient chivalry, brave knights and beautiful ladies, convinces himself he is a knight and sets off to roam the world with his squire, to right every wrong and find his ideal woman, Dulcinea. However, Dulcinea already has suitors, and is in love with Basil the barber, while her parents wish her to marry Gamache, a rich, pompous nobleman. When the lovers flee, all the would-be suitors pursue them.The confused Don Quixote has a succession of hapless adventures in which he views everyday events as legendary feats and often gets things wrong.Will the lovers get caught? Will Don Quixote find his Dulcinea? Will his trusty squire help him see he is living a fantasy? The ballet will be staged at The Playhouse on March 4.
