THE innovators of English folk rock music, Fairport Convention, celebrate 40 years of music making when they return to The Playhouse, Weston, on February 14.Formed in 1967, Fairport has always primarily been a gigging band and although it has numerous albums under its belt it is the relationship with its audience which has seen it travel extensively throughout Europe and the USA.In 1971 it became one of the first bands to take music behind the Iron 'Curtain' with a tour of Hungary and in 2002 the band received a lifetime achievement award from BBC Radio 2.The band members talents speak for themselves as individually and collectively they have played and recorded with Jethro Tull, The Albion Band, Robert Plant, Paul McCartney, Art Garfunkel, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Beverley Craven, Jools Holland and many others.During the performance Fairport will be playing some old favourites from the band's 40-year career as well as material from its latest CD Sense Of Occasion.Patrons will also hear music from a special guest, Belfast born singer and songwriter Anthony John Clarke.The performance starts at 7.30pm.
