PAUL Lacey's Back to Basie orchestra takes centre stage at Weston's Playhouse Theatre on September 30.The 17-strong band hopes to transport audiences back to a time when musicianship and showmanship reigned supreme. It features the trademarks of the original Count Basie Band such as a smooth bouncy sax section, a driving rhythm section and crisp trumpet and trombone sections.American Count Basie first achieved widespread fame in 1936 when radio broadcasts by his Barons of Rhythm band led to national bookings and a contract with Decca.
