ONE of the world's most successful comedy bands returns to The Playhouse theatre by popular demand on September 7.The clever, clean comedy style of the Barron Knights has been successful across the planet. They are living proof that British humour travels and they have spread their brand of musical merriment to Australia, Asia, Africa, Europe and America.The band boasts 14 hit records from the 60s and 70s and went on to have three one-hour TV specials which went to number one in the ratings.Formed in 1959, the band consists of original members Pete Langford, Butch Baker and Duke D'Mond as well as 'newcomers' Micky Groome and Lloyd Courtenay.Their first hit record set the humourous tone for the Barron Knights success. Call Up The Groups, released in 1964, reached number three in the UK singles chart.Other UK top 10 singles included Pop Go The Workers, Merry Gentle Pops, Live In Trouble and A Taste Of Aggro.Their live show offers a blend of comedy and straight vocals.
